Marshall 802 Tractor - opinions?

I used to work on farm that ran marshall's and they were a good tractor. To do the clutch you dont have to take the cab off you have to un bolt the seat then unbolt the console and slide that back to were the seat was and take a bit out the top of the bell housing and your there ! The 804 we had sounded lovely with a straight through pipe on it used to love driving that :thumbup:

Dare I suggest there would be a bit of collector interest in the Marshall marque.?

Certainly soundly if unimaginatively engineered.

The later/last ones were actually rebadged Steyr's if I recall.(Or was there some other connection)

Again properly engineered kit.

Cab off for a clutch should not be an issue, once every 20/25/30 years.

 

From memory the Steyr connection was towards the end of the companies existence after the Marshall name and etc had been bought by another company whose name escapes me at the minute, think the idea was to rebadge steyrs in marshall colours to increase the product range, was a series of articles on the Marshall tractor story in classic tractor magazine, either last year or year before I think

Zetor would be fine but can't find one for less than £9k ! :thumbup1: IH 885 went for £15k near here recently - nutso money :001_huh:

 

hello jon do you get the agricultural trader they publish up at barnstaple every month there are some good tractors in there

 

and saturdays western morning news lots of farm sales

The main problems with Zetor over a certain age, mine included is auxiliary hydraulics are poor and the brakes seem to need a lot of attention to keep them balanced. Engine and gearbox being the bits which count seem very rugged and basic. Nice and easy to work on. Being near Cornwall. I would have thought you'd find plenty of zetors for sale, they seem to like them down there. I got mine a year ago for 4.5k and spent £800 on it to sort a few problems out. Only done 3300 hours so you should find something if you keep looking.

Soviet design focussed on moving forward, not stopping, based on their Military philosophy.

Hence the excellent Soviet design off-road "Russian" tyred HGV's.

Unlike Mr Westinghouse's brilliant safety breakthrought these used air to pull the brakes on,

i.e.

no air = no brakes.

But one could at least continue the invasion of Western Europe, without awaiting the field mechanics, if brake pipes pulled off in rough terrain.

Plus no bleeding nonsense with a truck being unable to move in the morning cos the air system was "frozen"
