modding my a 201t

So has anyone here tried removing the carb limiter? I fear I've got the bug now. I don't want to do anything too involved (I struggle to change the clock in my car) but I'd like to get as much as I can from my saw, and the warranty has already been raped anyhow.

I'd be interested to hear from the saw romancers (Spud, GTR and the like) if they reckon its worth it?

What about advancing the timing?

What about advancing the timing?

It can help a saw, it can slow down a saw, Brad has done a flywheel key mod on MS201s and has had a good improvement.

The theory is that it can improve low compression engines and stifle high compression engines. It can also hinder flat out revs if it is done too much, it can also cause detonation if done too much but lowering the squish can help reduce detonation for obvious reasons.

I did my own 066 once and too much - it idled and reckoned if I had given it a fistful, I would have bent the con rod - I was around 33 degrees advance at idle.

It is an intricate mod - easy if you know what you are doing and know how to measure the ignition degrees with a degree wheel and piston stop.

Welcome to my world - you did ask:thumbup:

Surprised no one has mentioned plugging the strato holes yet:001_rolleyes:

You can keep that lot.

I will just stick to repairing them. But then after some have tried a few tricks then some might come along.:lol::lol::lol:

It is a bit easy once he theory has been sorted. But in practice it gets a bit harder.

Took one for the team asking that!🙊🙉

Someone had to ask:lol:.....I spend a bit of time thinking about ways of improving saws, as Rich says - easy to know the theory but more difficult to actuate it.

If you want to see an ignition tweak in action - MattyFs 395XP on whats on my bench thread had an ignition advance mod......along with a lot of other modification! It went rather well in the vid:thumbup:

You told me a while ago that the ignition timing was a tad involved, and I'd rather steer clear of it. Seems like something that if I tried you'd be getting a lot of pestering from me asking "how do I fix this":001_tongue:

Like I say, I don't want to go balls out with the modding, I was wondering mainly about the carb limiter, and if its worth removing.

Strato? I don't speak techie, care to put it in laymans terms? Or am I missing an in joke?:sneaky2:

The new 2 mix engines are a stratified charge, which is where just normal air enters first to clear out the previous combustion in the cylinder, then that is followed by the usual air/fuel mix. The different sets of air all have different ports
