It would be less profit if you use the same day rate as you would on a smaller job so up your day rate for the big jobs to cover extra fuel etc.., then you would make the same profit? As for dropping the price to get the job well that's a bit daft as its only you loosing out not the customer

Do you guys find that the bigger the tree the less you make ? E./G trim up 6 times small silver birch 2 days = x amount prophet Take down one huge oak also 2 days = not quite x amount . Plus its more grunt .

I reckon your probably correct for many jobs. It's a lot easier to underestimate the time on big jobs. Far better to do two or three small jobs in a day for £200 apiece than the job we're on at the moment. V big syc into eight foot square drop zone which is decking. A lot of sweat and swearing involved.:001_smile:

I don't know why but my IPad corrects my spelling and even grammar and apostrophes etc, it's very clever.

Indeed, we get used to autocorrect, but it has interpreted some of my typos leading to embarrassing Freudianism creeping into my typing, even my clunky old laptop would have caught that one

Just been to price a big ash to pollard or take down dependant on price, phoneline through it, 2 garages, 3 sheds, 2 fences,to come out for access and over 4 gardens. Everything would need lowering, minimum 2 days for 3 guys. They told me when got there they'd had a really high price, in conversation let slip it's for £550! Didn't even give a price as not even in the ball park, so no, big trees aren't paying for me right now!

Usually there is more money in small jobs because you can do several in a day easy work hardly costs anything to do them, bigger jobs should be the same but rarely get them as someone will go in cheap to do it let them struggle and learn the hard way i say, bigger the job the more hassle usually.
