Chippers -- what modifications

I thought it would be nice to have a thread that, instead of slagging off certain chippers for what they can and can't do, would list the modifications that could be done to improve the chipper you have.

 

I'm sure there will be chipper retailers, manufacturers that may look in and find some of the feedback usefull.

 

In other words, name the chipper you have and list the modifications you would like to see to make it a better chipper in your veiw.

 

For example, mines a Bandit 65XL, it's a very good chipper, but what would make it better is if the feed rollers had an auto backoff when the stress control kicked in so the the timber wasn't held against the flywheel while the engine revs built back up. Maybe also a turbo fitted

 

Also, stronger springs on the top feed roller and a faster acting stress control similar to the timberwolfs.

 

I would also like to see an extended spout

i have a tp 250(pto)it can only be operated from the one side(safely)due to the forward/reverse lever. and taking the feed roller springs off when jammed up are a nightmare, a 2 prong gizmo lever that could be attached would be good thing, rather than pull cord and a crowbar.

i have jensen a530t, could you not make the feed hopper bigger as it is a removable one so the extra width wouldnt be a problem .

I have a Schiesling 400U PTO Unimog front mount, the main problem with it is its just too good!!!!

 

If we ever have had too use another chipper we find most very poor in comparison:thumbdown:

I did say "most"

 

 

I am in no way saying that the Schiesling is the ONLY good chipper out there.

 

But I have used some VERY poor machines over the years.

Hmm, same here. Machines such as yours or the yellow beast make using the really bad ones worse than ever!

slishing/premier 220 mx & 200 mx have a post on mud gard in stead of us welding it on to caryy cones

 

have a simple tube to put brooms and rakes in as wel las push stick

 

the 220 has some hany holes but needs elastic

 

big vermear cant remember number have ahydrolic jack to ift top roller if jammed, some do have them

 

8 inch timberwolf, have a tinker with out put to make them less prone to blocking

 

and a very very very old turner i think that needs a bonfire so we dont ever have to use it again hehehehehehheheheheh

Ditto that and add this lot:

 

1) Auto reverse when jammed.

2) Higher power feed rollers and higher downward pressure from top roller to handle forks and bananas better. My A530Ts achilles heel for sure.

3) Either quick-removable or ability to tie back the clear rubber debris shields that hang from the top of the hopper.

4) Get rid of the standard feed table / hopper - folding one is far better.

5) Improve locking mechanism on chute to stop it turning with vibration when on a slope.

6) Put vari-track sticker on the right way round!

7) Make the engine dipstick easier to get at (kubota).

8) Inset the outer radiator grill more so that it doesn't rip your trousers when you're riding the footplate.

9) Better ground clearance and move the exhaust from underneath to on top or at least higher.

 

Don't change the stress control - it is the best and fastest I've ever come across, none of this revving back up again. Due to the long stroke torque of the 3 cylinder 1.7 unit I'm told.
