It is time to renew our contract with Yellow Pages and we have decided not to.

But what about Yell.com?

Do any of you use this, does it work for you either for attracting business or for finding suppliers?

i think that whole organisation stinks.

They lied to me for years over a number of things.

When I look for a service or whatever on-line I type in whay I want and look at the 'direct' results. I will ignore broker-type sites because you just get another list and you know the people on there are paying extra for the privilege.

It may work to get you higher on the google search (they all tell you it will) but if you design your website well - lots of discussions on here before - you can get yourself near the top of the 'real' list.

YP/Yell waste of money. Just my opinion though - someone must use em.

Expensive waste of money. Payed a huge amount to be in top 5 of their listings, very rarely actually there and only ever had 1 call off of it and he was a knob.

Cancelled everything and threatened legal action. soon got my money back.

Couldn't agree more with Shane and Landyman.

Those 'brokers' at the top of Google are polluting the internet.

Yell, Kelkoo, Supaprice etc. - you don't do tree work, so please go forth and multiply.

I don't mind the yellow pages/yell.com for adverts, in the scheme of things it's Pennies to advertise and tax deductible.

Just yesterday I got a £1200 job from the add in the yellow pages and it's a tiny add. I don't subscribe to the just because I don't use it no one else will train of thought. I get work from lots of different sources so quite happy to advertise there.

The sales rep is a different story though, you sometimes have to be quite assertive with them. :001_smile:

Thanks for the input guys. I was set to drop anything connected with Yell but I had not actually checked what it was doing for me.

My own website does pretty well in the google searches, and where it does not is due to my lack of effort.

A few rewrites of content or the addition of an extra page here and there sorts my site out, but still my own site is sometimes beaten by Yell.com, so we still win and its not too expensive.

Still pondering ths one, as well as editting my own website to optimise it.
