What have you learnt about trees this week?

The great thing about trees is that you are always learning and you never know it all.

 

Learnt this, this week.

 

The smell of Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer flowers is similar to the smell of sperm.

 

Does anyone concur?

 

The smell was hinted to me, by a client, I had to google it.

 

The google answers were all from americans; read into this what you like.

On a slight sidetrack I once offered a girl a piece of mango as she'd never tried it and she said it felt like sperm!

I discovered that spraying Dursban on fast growing apple shoots during hot weather scorches them.

when you cut down a Hemlock and a Scots Pine way down the bottom of the garden, make sure you carry out the Hemlock rings and leave the Scots for everyone else!

I heard fairly recently that a climber at your old firm in Cambridge got injured in that exact same way.

It's easily done when trees are in close proximity. But in my situation a simple 'heads up!' would have prevented it.

 

I was chogging down a couple of stems between two garages, had a piece of timber in my hands when I got hit. Dropped the wood, which bounced off my thigh and then through the garage roof. Fifty quid for a new sheet and a couple of hours going to get it and replacing it, frustrating as un-necessary.

 

 

I have no issue with the actual mistake of the top going wrong, these things happen, but the lack of communication is a serious issue. Maybe you can't teach stupid:001_rolleyes:
