IRATA refreshers, they are three years and if you don’t log any hours for 6 months you have to do a refresher.

They are the people the HSE consult when deciding on what the policy will be when it comes to recommended training, so the obviously suggest more training not less.

 

I would be interested to know if there has been any serious analysis of accident statistics to see if those involved were well trained etc.

 

As has been mentioned earlier by Mesterh, we generally only put our selves at risk, those you mention are putting others at more risk than themselves.

I think you give the trainers creditwith more influence than they possess.

 

In the past I have been part to such meetings and I can tell you that the HSE only go with your suggestion if your suggestion is in line with the HSE’s aims and goals.

Have a look at TKF (Tim Kirk Forestry) up in Holmfirth they do one day options for ground and aerial based refreshers - plus they are really flexible ive got the number for the training guy if anyone is interested

Proof is in the pudding if you use a chainsaw daily for 10-20 years without cutting any body parts off do you need basic training. If u go on a refresher for any trade 10% is useful 90% is fluff and padding. Do experienced middle age men need the same training as a school leaver.

For example it could be an in-house training day with all the qualified chainsaw operatives, which would give a good opportunity for the communication of new industry best practice, like a toolbox talk which would then be a tick box excersise for everybody's CPD

 

Surely it wouldnt have to be an NPTC refresher??

yes sounds like thry are trying to justify it now as a CPD excersise|! CPD really now come on, NPTC is a basic certificate, It is first call of profesional development not CONTINUOS professional development:lol:

 

if it was continuing professional development it would be going over old ground!
