What do people use when it comes time to replace the trailer floor board? Just a sheet of 18mm ext ply?

Regular ply can be lethal slippery but you can grip it up a bit with some cheap paint and grit sand.

 

Other than that the stuff they use from new is called phenolic faced plywood

As Treequip says, if using ply, use phenolic. Not cheap though. I recently paid £42.35 plus vat for top grade birch 18mm.

 

Alumium chequer plate is easy to fit over the top of a tatty ply floor but is costly too.
