John H’s General L/A Picture Thread

I thought I’d lump all my general work pictures together on one thread. So here goes….

This was today’s job, Ash in a well-used public park in Worcester. The fungi is Polyporus squamosus (Dryads Saddle). There is a fairly large cavity which is visible in the centre of the main trunk. The spec was a crown reduction by approx 30% in order to reduce end-weight and sail area. I’ve been criticised for not using the MEWP enough at work so thought I’d better take it out. Had to climb it too as the tree was too tall, or should it be the MEWP was too short…lol :001_smile:

Thought you would have got a nice close up of the fungi.

Looks like that brash was stacked for a bonfire :001_tongue:

How tall was the ash? considering the MEWP wouldnt reach.

You ask, so shall it be.....:001_smile:

I didn’t have both vehicles today so I’ll be back to chip tomorrow. I should think it was about 22 metres tall (the MEWP is a 15 model) – ideal for very short trees! Lol.

I am not criticizing your work John, but you said it was a 30% reduction the end result to my untrained eyes looks more like 50% did the spec change after you inspected the tree close up or do i need to go to specsavers?:001_smile:

Ditto,

I find it quite interesting to see people definition of % reductions... I appreciate the tree had to be reduced due to fungal infection and the location. But I would have said it looks more like a 40ish give or take a bit % reduction in height and about 80% reduction of foliage.
