When does a person become a "tree surgeon"?

So......when can a person ligitimately call themselves a tree surgeon??

 

CS 30/31/38/39,? or do you need more than that?

 

Do you expect the title to mean a lot more than basic training? How much peripheral knowledge is a tree surgeon expected to have.

 

To me, a surgeon is an expert, or at the very least, somebody who can safely prune or take down a mature tree and give correct basic advice on tree care.

 

There are too many cowboys out there with a bowsaw and a ladder, definitely, but at what point during the NPTC training can somebody be considered to have earned their stripes?

the nptc certification if and when someone passes, is the the point when you start to learn the industry, be in forestry or arb.

NPTC is only the beginning, unless you do them after you have done a fair bit. I wouldn;t call comeone who'd first been introduced to a saw 6 months ago but got all their nptc's a tree surgeon.

Not sure if I agree with this, but my belief is that you can call yourself a tree surgeon after passing small tree felling, and that the minimum qualification to call yourself an arborist was cs39.

Dont agree with that really, 39 only allows you to use a saw in a tree, what about 40 which is pruning 41 which is dismantling.

 

Without those you cant prune, nor should you be dismantling a tree.

 

I wouldnt call myself a tree surgeon and ive been doing this for many years, and im sure others i know would say the same who have alot more experience than myself.

im not really sure how my opinion will go down here but here goes,

 

i think a tree surgeon is someone who has cs 30, 31, 38 and 39 and 5 years experience and an arborist is all of above with at a good few more years experience
