Saw chain for abrasive Oak

As above, sounds like theyre decent enough size trees to be worth taking a little extra time over if need be.

Oregon multicut's not bad for abrasion resistance but it's fairly tough on files and doesn't bite like a conventional full chisel chain. We've been using it on some scrub clearance over winter and it definitely outperformed in that instance.

If you want to try multi cut I have it - more expensive than other chain but not by much.

You can buy it here Custom chain loops

if you know the chain spec or here if you have a stihl or husky,

Info on multi cut on page 13 and 14 here http://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/media/documents/chain-info.pdf but yes I know takes an age to download... morten showed me another way of doing this with a dropbox but have not figured it out yet :blushing:

If you reckon the contamination is only in the bark, not the wood, could you run an old, scrappy chain round through the bark to mark the line and the gob first? The bark is relatively soft, so the chain will still cut when dulled, but leave you only clean wood to cut with the decent chain. You could probably mark up a few at a go to avoid swapping chains too often.

I have an old, nearly worn out chain I use on suspect stuff as it doesn't matter so much if I hit a stone or something.
