I had one years ago, did the same thing would run fine through the first tank of fuel but once warm wouldnt restart until cold and it was like that from brand new, never had any other problems with it always cut fine and handled anything thrown at it was just the hot starting was a pain

hay everyone a friend is thrown me a mucculloch chain saw my way for nothing. are thay any good ? he says it runs fine but can be a bit funny to start untill it cools down :confused1: any info would be great.

Use it for logging , garden work , when it packs up skip it, you cant lose as it cost you nothing.

Just how old is it?

 

Going right back, MacCulloch were one of the pro manufacturers but they dropped out of this '70s/'80s. If it's big, heavy (all metal casing) and slow then it's an old school pro saw. If it's small, light and plasticky it's a modern homeowner saw, but I would say still a step up from a B&Q special.

I used a late '70s McCulloch in the sawmill yard for years, it was great. We ran a 28" on it and used it for tidying up lumber before it went through the mill. As above, the old metal case ones are grand but most don't have chain brakes! Last used the metal ones, never used any of the modern plastic ones
