Yes, thanks all, I did a spraying ticket years and years ago, I must check if its still valid, was for bracken! Reckon I’ll start small with what Ive got, and get on with it .

Looks As though disaster has struck: this quarantine has stopped the sale of my villa in Spain, I was going to use some of the money to finance the new venture, buyers pulled out. So, at the mo I have a landrover and trailer and a selection of decent saws. Might be domestic rhoddys for a bit!

Aye, thats what I’m thinking, the niche is hand cutting that no one wants to do, potentially with a wee digger for slightly bigger stuff, I just need enough to keep ticking over...

More good replies, thanks again, I know Glen Etive well, am actually from Glencoe...would be good work there. Its overrun with campers now. Dont mind hand working, I need to keep going, cant stop working, too young, at 50!

Im thinking tractor and mulcher and/or mini digger might be the way....

Climbing palms for the last 7 years, 50 now and right hip is painful, same with knees, also hellish tennis elbow that comes and goes. Hopefully itll ease mow climbing is over.

Was thinking about a wee mini digger with grapple, as spuddog says, for flat areas. I’ve been cutting 15 footers by hand and piling and burning them, not too bad when you get going. Getting workers might be hard I suppose, not many up for this kind of work.

Yes, thats what i was thinking. Dont mind the midges etc, grew up on the NW coast. Am thinking about specialist clearance where ground disturbance is important....hand cutting, mulching and herbicide control over tracked stuff. To start with.....

Hmmm thats kind of what I was wondering. Thing is where I live, there is a huge problem with rhodo ponticum running wild everywhere, I thought a small business doing removal and control, without using heavy machinery might be a niche

Have moved back to Scotland after a few years in Spain working on palms etc, now, at 50 I dont want to climb or do much domestic tree work, I bought a lovely old house with a huge garden, completely surrounded by massive rhodo hedges, whilst removing these, I wondered about the viability of running a rhododendron control business maybe combined with hogweed control. I’m kind of kicking the idea around, and I would be grateful for any opinions, observations, experiences of work in this kind of area....thanks in advance from a wet Scotland ...John

Cheers boys that's what I thought the long bars left frm when I ran a 440 but its knackered and am left with the 391 just now....oh well will need to be the 20 on it

Anyone know if an MS391 could pull a 32" bar, have got a few big hardwoods to drop and apart from a 20 the next biggest I've got is a 32.... Would be a one off as I don't usually drop many giant hardwoods....thanks in advance

Grand stuff burning a load in my stove as we speak dries pretty quick too and if you stack it in your house it smells nice !

Aye, everyone's right you will use a huge amount of logs I've just been ip to my yard and helped myself to a Landy full which should last a couple of weeks, I think we all forget, at lest those of us in the firewood game, that if you don't have access to free wood, its an expensive game ...

Mine here is a 12 kw Coseyfire I got of the tinternet...we had an old open fire with a wraparound boiler, took the fireplace and old boiler out and connected the stove to the old inlet and outlets got my mate a plumber to do the pies and check it all, I run 4/5 Ra and a tall towel rail off it and it heats the house...in fact it's roasting here even on the coldest days. Best thing I ever did.

This here's my 12kw boiler stove got it from Coseyfire on the tintyweb took a stihl saw to the old fireplace to make a gap... Sorted run 4 rads and a towel rail sittin wi the Windaes open most nights sweatin like a fat boy on a smartie

Does firewood actually dry in cord form?!!!

It deffo does I've just cut a load of larch and MC cord which has been sitting in my yard for about 18 months and was prob dropped about 6 months prior o me stacking it. I ringed and split it and inside its about 20-23% straight away for sale.... -
I use a car transporter trailer with sides added on and a mesh on the ramps pulled by a Defender 110. no dramas with being overweight unless you load it right up. Take the mesh sides off and it's ideal for moving log lengths from the forestry as you can get a good load on without it being high.
