Day rate for man + chipper?

Query - would be interested to know what is the 'typical range' of prices for a days chipping only (no cutting). I've been asked to carry out several weeks worth of non-stop chipping in a remote woodland requiring my tracked machine. This is basically a case of the land owner wanting thinned out brash chipped for future path substrate...

several weeks work, sounds good, nice and sheltered no nagging domestic customers. nice clean easy chipping. price to get mate i would say. :001_smile:

I occasionally hire in a man + chipper for the day, costs me £120.00 for the day, and the boy will chip whatever is required, all chippings left on site.

This is with a trailed chipper and not a tracked chipper though, so for having a tracked machine I would expect to be paying at least £25 more per day so I would say £150 per day.

Back as far as 2002 ish, my mate charged 120 - 150 / day for himself plus 9" pto on tractor so I'm guessing at least that. The wood is quite a drive away, will do a minimum of 8 hours chipping per day and chips have to fired into strategically located piles rather than just anywhere on the floor. The track into the wood is steep and just tracking the machine to the work area will take a hour after offloading it!

MST is my local Redwood middle man; got it 7 months old with 60 hours for 10K!!! Couldn't not have it could I ??!

Oh and there's one heck of a load of wiggly tangled hawthorne in that brash; the rest is clean tho...

Chipper running costs £15-25 per hour no profit chipper type dependant, that's what it costs wear and tear, maintainance and fuel

Your wage £120 per day minimum, plus a bit of profit on the chipper £50 a day

It is going to be running 7 hours a day solid knocking the nuts off it, I wouldn't do that with my chipper unless it was for good money

TCD, would you not prefer him to tell you everything he wants doing, so that you can work out a price for the whole job?

He gets it all done at a set price, without the need to chase you. You have an opportunity to make more profit.

You`re taking on risk and responsibility but that`s what generally attracts reward.
