We bought 4, all problematic. Swapped the sprocket over to a spur as advised by stihl which made a difference to the clutch wear. Now they have all started to slip out of tune like yours. Shame they didn't keep going with the 260, we loved them.

Clutch spring/ needle bearings even on the second one that the dealer (on here) said would be OK. It's done it for me with this saw. Nearly just bought a third but I'm going Husky- just to try out the opposition.

Having said that- the 261 once fixed seems fine- just wish they'd fixed it before they sent it out.

nothing but trouble with ours too. When we replaced our bigger saws recently we opted for the 046 and 066 instead of the newer models. All stihls new stuff seems to be plagued by problems.

I agree, and its not just the stihl stuff some of the husky saws too.

I would highly recommend the Husqvarna 346xp. Im a Stihl man myself but my friends a husky dealer and when my old 260 died he gave me this saw to try. Its roughly the same size and weight but power wise it will out run the 260 any day and I honestly never thought id say that but it does. Its very robust and very nice to use, highly recommend.
