Tata 4x4 pickup advice

I seem to remember if it ever over heated they would pay for the repairs. I think it was massively over cooled. I have a feeling it was an old merc engine could be the same one in the sangsangyong thing as well. Nice drive does not ring a bell but its a cheap work truck and I am sure it will drive past many range rover sports broke down with ecu problems :lol:

 

The one my mate had was definately a merc engine, the front end tinwork was also merc even the grille had a recess for the Merc "Stern"

where i worked years ago got one from new. it wasnt the 4x4 model just a 2 wheel drive loadbeta think it had a xud in it?

 

It was an "m" reg, 5 OR 6 grand new. think a hilux at the time was 9/10 grand? and when it came to its first mot it needed so much doing to it he ended up selling it for 500 pound. it was hammered every day and not looked after. i drove it and found it ok to drive with and with out weight but could not tow.

Update, its year 2000, old, and seems to be ok but not very nice to drive, it has got 4 good tyres , full mot, 4mths tax, service history up to 47,000 with 83,000 on the clock , i may have paid too much but i was only after the tipper bed off it, its a good one made by trucksmith and the dimensions will fit straight on my Hicap, i have also got the original Tata rear pickup bed which i will put back on and then sell it or is the opinion on here that i would be better just to scrap the whole thing once i'v removed the tipper and its bits.

On an estate i worked on, they purchased a double cab to replace a LR90TD, in the woods department. That was about 15 years ago. I only used it a couple of times, the steering was terrible, you had to do a 3 point turn on a couple of the sharper corners around the estate. The 4X4 was engaged by a plastic thumb wheel that didnt look like it was going to last, and I was often called to rescue it from fields that were a little wet, using a 1.3 suzuki jeep to pull it out.

 

The rear seat was a plank of wood with some leatherette stapled to it, no padding.

 

Even new it was poor. :thumbdown:
