Skoda Yeti Greenline

Not really an arb truck but I've pretty much been told my work car arrangements need to change.

We are limited to only vehicles that emit less than 130g of CO2 per km, ie. for a diesel this means something that does about 56mpg or above (published, not real figures).

For about the same money as a mid-range diesel Golf or Focus, I can get the dogs danglies Skoda Yeti Greenline, but only in 2wd form. I know Skoda build quality is meant to be much improved but have read some critical reviews on the yeti; whilst it won't be "my" car I could do without a whole load of visits to he garage to get niggling problems fixed.

Anyone got, had or driven one and care to share your thoughts?

Front wheel drive plus winter tyres WILL outperform a 4 by 4 on summer slicks a foot wide.

Plus anyway regardless of the number of driven wheels stopping and steering are purely down to the tyres fitted.

As I keep saying , look at any random footage from the Scandavian countries.

Wee FWD's whizzing around.

Not big Jeeps.

Plus "Ice Road Truckers" run on solid sheet ice on bare tyres, only very reluctantly fitting snow chains for extreme gradients in particularly conditions.

An they are bloody artics a most useless combination in poor traction conditions.

Erm!

How do I get down from this soap-box.

Am afeart o heights.

I actually desperatly wanted a Yeti, and we were buying new.

But with the need for an automatic and room for the wheelchair for the wife the 1.6TDI DSG Octavia won out.

Actually grown quite fond of it in this past 40,000 miles.

An acutal 50 mpg piddling about local

55 on any reasonable length run

A genuine 60 plus mpg on a Sunday afternoon sightseeing type run.

(or over 6,000 miles in 30 days)

My Yeti choice would have been the 110BHP 2WD varient.

PS

Skoda are not quite what they are cracked up to be, at least in respect of NI dealer product knowledge.

Ours was off the road from 31 Jan to 1st May last year for a gearbox fault, while Skoda spent approx £20,000.00 (parts only) on not fixing it.

Quite the comedy of errors.
