Driftwood for firewood? Illegal?

Hi, is it legal to take driftwood for firewood. Purely for home use not commercial. Also it's from banks of the humber estuary, if that makes a difference. Did have a quick Google but couldn't find anything.

Fully legal, anything from high water mark down is yours

As long as its above the water line I think it's ok, below that's the crowns or something.

I have lifted stuff off the beach before and I see loads of folk at the weekends helping themselves .

Be aware that it may well be contaminated by sand or soil, not great if your cutting it up with a saw.

Strictly speaking driftwood belongs to the owners of the right to wreck, so taking it without consent is theft. In reality? I can't see many people complaining, especially if you're not loading up a lorry.
