Nice work there Aaron, heres a few of todays job for all the critics!

If I had to be really picky I'd say leave a little more post showing above the top rail, just my preference I think it looks a little better. Apart from that a lovely job, nice flowing lines 👍

quick question to all you fencers

How do you secure your end posts usually ? Do you use postcrete or wedge them in good with stones ?

Bash them in usually with a post knocker.

I prefer hardcore packing as the post can breathe then, whereas concrete on wood posts causes a rot line at the top of the concrete.

Home made Oak wedges! Flat side against post, tapered side facing out to soil, longish fairly gentle taper, nice snug hole for the post, then bang those bad boys in! They'll out live the post but it you end up getting any slack, bang another one in!

Thanks Matthew, Yeah we drove them all in, 7ft posts and used the lazer lever to get it all the right height! we had all the posts knocked in and rails and boards up in a day with 4 of us, 2 knocking and 2 railing up. I find it much easier knocking them in than concreting.

Wow- that's good going doing all that in a day, well done. Never thought of using a laser level, does the ground have to be level for that to work or can you adjust the laser to follow a slope? For post and rail I use electric wire pulled tight and use the temporary electric fence posts as intermediates to keep the string line at the right height , it does a good job but should think a laser level is far quicker and more accurate.
