our john deere 3215 is 5 yrs old with 5000hrs on clock.. used to change it every 3 yrs max as only cost around 15k to swap each time.... 2 yrs ago it was gonna cost nearly 25k to swap as new ones gone up so much... machine similar spec to ours is over 50k now when 2 yrs ago they were 35k..

we bought a 2nd hand 1994 machine for £7000 this yr instead to even workload out...

we wont be buying new again and same goes for tractors..

you just cant do enough work in a season to warrant a new one..

2 or even 3 [in case of our tractors] good 2nd hand ones far more usefull

Steve, why don't you allocate a nominal sum to your existing machine? A new seat, some electrical worn an a few hours of a fitter fixing leaks will make a huge difference and also increase its sell on value. Brand new is great but comes art a price. Allocate say £500-600 and see what that gets you! it might suprise you the difference it makes. Tony

Good points nick I would be happier spending 7-10k maybe I should look harder for something a bit cleaner.

Tony good ideas I did a year or so back put a new seat in and sort some of the electrics. The machine is physically too big for the ground I have left. It should make about 4k so If I add 6k to it will get a much better machine. The old girl I have has been very loyal and capable so will be sad if it does go. Maybe I will sell a bit more junk and when the logs have gone there will be alot more room.

ex arable farm machine is what you'd be looking for... the one we just bought has 6000 hrs on but is actually tidier to look at than our 07 plate..

and it was 2 owners from new.. last one for 18yrs just loading grain whereas ours gets used for anything and everything and it shows..

I think I see a nice ex arable one owner machine on ebay this week think it was 525 with equal size wheels looked very tidy.

Keep your eye on Brightwells in Herefordhire as they have a lot of Telehandelers go through at very reasonable money as they do a lot of reprocessions for the major banks and they go for very little money. If you look on line it will tell you some past sales prices on kit. Sorry don't know how to do the link.

Been using an old John Deere for the last couple of years, good tool. This summer my brothers did a hell of a lot of research into replacing their elderly Saunderson, they opted for a manitou on the basis that no one had a bad word to say about them.

I have been using it and find it well capable, lifts plenty ( 2 tonnes), goes anywhere, pulls a decent trailer, control lever is not quite so natural as the JD but its OK. yes they bought a used one.
