Hitch Hiker thread.

It doesn't need a CE mark mate. But this is it, it does need one to become eligible to hit the shops for sale in the uk. And the reason I mentioned before is the reason they won't CE it. Not sure on the affects of insurances so can't comment there. But really shouldn't be used as there's no CE certificate, again I'm unsure as to the affects on say self employed climbers. On another note I'm also unsure if it conforms to EN standards also?

 

I'm happy with it and being self employed and the only climber who's uses my HH I really can't see there being any issues regarding HSE and voiding other firms insurance policy's. It's another touch but don't look, taste but don't swallow story's if you ask me.

 

Ive also got one Adam and I'm aware of the risks that go with using it over this side of the world but I was just pointing out that for employed climbers in uk and Germany you need to be using a c e marked item. I am still under the impression that srtwp is not allowed in workplace scenarios so that in itself is another thing completely but say for instance you are using the rope wrench ddrt , this would be allowed and you would not need a ce marking but if your were to use the hitch hiker ddrt, this would still not be allowed due to how it is setup.

 

IM no H&S Nazi or expert but it was just said so that maybe people who read these posts who are thinking about purchasing these items for work ,are aware of what it means to climb on these bits of equipment.

are you sure ? the rw isn't life support as your hitch is separate but with the hh your directly tied onto the device

 

And thats the reason if the HH or UNI have a catastrophic failure you could plummet but on the RW your well stuck. Im thinking of a way to add a sneaky back up in like you could do with a klemheist on a UNI.

How did you guys find the Knut?

Alright gerb I just think the VT is a lot more smoother on descents. The Knut is a little aggressive on descents with regards to hitch cord wear

I have had the HH quite a long time now & have tried a lot of variations . The best & most consistent set/up I have found is the original with the beeline. Thinner cord was too twitchy with sry.

The vt required too much attention on ddrt & was too agressive on srt & the Knut I found was too difficult to release.

I tried the Knut and loved it for a day.

 

I just keep going back to the original VT without the T.

I use 5 wraps.

Give 4 wraps on 8mm a try Al, every cord I've tried it with in 8mm has been fantastic
