Winter 2012-13: weather prediction

IMO the mild winters we have had over the last few years as seen an increase in pesky critters and diseases. We need a really good cold snap to thin em out .

 

I have not sold any logs as yet, I,m holding onto them while the new year

 

 

The last three winters have been much colder than the previous 30 mate, last years was not as cold as the previous 2, but still colder than most of the previous ones.

 

If the recall it was the two winters of 10/11 and 9/10 that killed all the Euc's, many of which had grown happily for 30 years.

 

I do agree that the cold winters are great for reducing numbers of pests and disease.

It's prolonged cold spells that do the trick. We did have some very short overnight deep frosts

This was glenshee near where I am on Friday past ! Cars stuck the lot !

After about 6 very mild winters not using salt much the last 2 have been bad with many requests for salt. Delivered the first 2 bags about 4 weeks ago. Better get more stocks in.

Hope so - want another cold and dry one like a couple of years ago. Proper weather for working in

 

To right .... I keep reminiscing about that when the ground was rock solid and everything was dry. It was a pleasure to work in unlike this wet, drizzly, muddy, slimey log enviroment we have at the moment.

we could do with another cold winter it might make the ground less boggy went out this morning and flooding all over road in places and the customers lawn resembled a paddy field!! its so annoying

we lost an awful lot of eucalyptus in the 2 bad winters and the other thing that failed was a lot of ceanothus

Which probably got rid of an awful lot of inappropriately planted ones in 10ft square front gardens.
