Today we had to go fell this oak which had slowly been falling over. Cost dictated removal over retention sadly.

The local gardeners quote was cheaper but I pointed out to the client that they'd be buying their cherries from the supermarket next year...and the year after...

That's a whole heap of biodiversity disappeared Ian.

We removed the main timber but all the bark and soft limbs were placed to the side. There's a small bramble area behind the trees which I hope that some will be broken down by bugs and beasties.

 

It just seems like all these budget cuts are eliminating retention round my way currently. As it's cheaper to fell and lift out.

Something's better than nothing I guess,

but wouldn't topping it in half and leaving it in situ not have been similar in price/time? and dealt with the risk.

Doesn't look to have been a particularly high foot fall area.

 

What's happened to the main trunk, any decent timber left in it?

Totally shot David, i know another tree care company gave a reduction price which was nearly double the fell cost (according to the man we saw on site today). I'd assume that's why we were only asked to provide a cost for felling.

 

If of been happy to of left the timber but they've had some serious arson occur in the past.

 

Fencing would of sufficed to be fair. But then again I didn't win the survey costing.

Not often the big saw comes out. 2 days of slicing and dicing and I'm glad to put it away for at least another 6 months fingers crossed
