Possibly but where it was in a very used part of the parkland it was considered unnecessary as bouldering a woodland where trees of equal habitat value course little potential danger in comparison. This particular estate has many large veteran trees in among younger plantations which are.mostly left to there own devices.

The trunk is likely to be winched into the wood and left as offers little comershal value so will be left to the bugs and beasty decay squad.

Fringe trees like that one are fairly niche and critical for site biodiversity for tree nesting bird and bat species as they are more open for ease of access and are warmer due to exposure to the Suns direct Rays.

We are going back to monolith some other old ash and start a bit of retrenchment on some compromised oaks within the grazing fields outside the main hall grounds most of which were ear marked for a stump but talked the head forester into letting us give them a stay of execution. I think they fear the liability side of things after a jump stewards car was badly damaged at the last event when a large chestnut limb failed and hit it mid competition, luckily noone was hurt.

Can't save em all David.

Beech we took down to 25ft last year, customer was going to have it carved but changed mind so out it comes. Was going to be milled but didn't realise extent of decay until it was on the deck

A quick hedge removal then the apprentice climbers first solo reduction on a small pyrus and then as a reward I let him go retrieve this large section of a poplar that failed.
