Made a start on this Ash today. Targets being nitric acid pipes, gas, electric cables, and a number of other pipes that I really didn't want to know what was in them. Didn't get a pic at the end of today, but back tomorrow. Slow and steady was the plan of attack.

Today's task.

We had to remove this lovely beech near to a grade II listed building. The only reason we felled it and were able to get the tpo lifted was a pocket of decay caused by dryads saddle. It was right were the twin main limbs joined and the risk of failure was on the limb which would cause catastrophic damage to the building. We spent about an hour setting two lines, then set the tension to pull evenly on then. 6:1 ratio used for capturing tension and the powers which to pull it over. The main stem was riddled with nails and as far as saws getting broke I think I hit a new high. Was the beech the same age as the house.?

Some pics of a big log coming down this afternoon. Measured at 75ft laying down.... I actually thought itd be about 10 ft shorter. Huge limbs on this tree before hand, for a single stem....up to 30 ft long. We used the mini loader to ferry and create the chip pile there to cushion the blow to the lawn.
