London tax question

Ive got a job coming up in battersea taking a tree down for one of my clients that lives in sussex. They are getting me parking permits but Im not sure if i need to pay that emissions tax thing or congestion charge?

Not sure if i should look forward to this job or not, it involves taking a small 14" Oak down but its at the rear of the property and the tree needs to go through the house.

What ideas have people come up with to move brush and logs through a house.

I think theres a website that you can put your registration into which will tell you if you need to pay or not - I got a letter saying I had to pay prior to the new ruling coming in,as I had just done some work up there, even with permits the parking was a bit of a nightmare to get the chipper in as well!

Get big- I mean big new bags- polythene tree root bags= 1.2m

Saves chipping paintwork and they are clean and not too long when full to make changing direction through doors a problem. If you are too greedy bringing big stuff through unprotected you will damage something. Slow and steady.

We also often have one dedicated interior 'dragger' on big jobs- can wear carpet slippers:001_smile:

Stumpgrinder thats the idea i was going to use, bed sheets and dust sheeting in general, then wrap bits up and move them through . As for charging i was just going to charge my normal day rate for my self and 2 others plus fuel to get up there and any charges.

Does any one know what any 3 men teams are charging for the day?

If any of your commercial vehicles or vans are older than 2003 it may cost £100 a day per vehicle need to check on line as others have said.

If your working in Battersea and it will take 3 men a whole day to get the job done. Then you want to be charging anywhere between 750 and 900. I.e. 250 - 300 GBP per man per day.

As for going through the house... par for the course on a lot of London Jobs. Ply line the walls and place a dust sheet over that. Old stair carpet is great for laying down and easy to roll up at completion. or just put down dust sheets.

Sned everything as straight as you can, twigs catch a lot on things and can mark paintwork or fabric. Get a builders sack - ton bag - whatever you want to call it. Sned the branches up and then lay them all but first on the bag, when you think there is enough, roll the bag up and kneel on it. Now put some more on the bag. When you close it roll the top edge a few times for a handle and then grabb away. Easy enough to lift over things and get round tight bends inside properties.

The easiest jobs I have ever done though the house were for a guy, who at quote stage used to compliment the HO on how nice their decor was etc etc. He would then go on to say although we will try our utmost to not mark anything, it might be worth their while to nip to tesco and get some boxes for door corners/frames, masking tape and some plastic.

Sometime we would turn up and the house was already like a CSI crime scene, leaving us to do the important bit... getting the tree out without spending an hour setting up.

As for the tax question, I don't think you'll be inside the C charge zone, but are definitely within the LEZ. Charges will deoend on the exact location and age of your vehicle.

Don't do it if it's raining!

Get a couple of black bins, I find you can load them but not over load them. One loading it the others taking them away!

you can either get dust sheets or you can get a very long heavy duty plastic roll for around £30 that should do.

This is the LEZ checker

And as the boys say 3 men probably around the 900 mark, but don't forget to leave really early as there are no fast roads into London from the south, and don't come into london on a friday!

I did a bit of sub contracting in London a few years back, we used to get a dozen or 2 sheets of 8x4 ft correx & line the whole drag route, floor & walls up to 4ft high. It's the stuff for sale signs on houses are made of - nice & light, quick n easy to fit + re-usable dozens of times ... & cheap. Get the right masking tape so you don't peel paint or wallpaper when you pull it down. Jobs a good un:thumbup1:
