chipping gorse

has anyone tried chipping gorse in the past, need to reduce the volume as it cant be burnt on site (dry heath sssi) and all arisings need to be removed so was thinking about chipping into builders bags

Put a fair bit through my Quad Chip, by which I mean watched someone else put a fair bit through.

 

Bigger chipper would be ideal though.

yes I spent a couple of days chipping gorse through our salean cougar chipper. Found it fed much better feeding it in green/bushy end first. I,ve run a bit through one of our 200mxs without any problems. Big welding gauntlets made it much less painful.

 

As for another day chipping gorse- I think I,m busy that day:biggrin:

Plenty of big forked stick to give it a push in to chipper. Just a thought can you burn it in a large old oil tank to contain the fire?????

Charlie, have a word with Gregor Macarthur, from Macarther forest services. Sure he would have the answer for you. i think he might have a good deal on a chipper he has in his yard as well. cheers nathan

i will second the bushy bit first , it wont all jam up as the tops all meet together + you can hold the woody bit and push

Does no-one have a mulcher they could use?

 

Otherwise, when using the woodchipper, the bigger the better and PUSH-STICKs ONLY!!!

Mulcher or flail is the best way, or someone else chipping it with someone else's chipper.

chipped loads of it a few months back, all i will say is make sure you have good gloves as its evil stuff
