Stolen saws...engraving.

Just wondered how many of you engrave a name and postcode on your kit?

Never know if it helps but I engrave crankcases and in 'hidden' places if I can.

After three break ins...one of which ended with arson to cover tracks I put as many identifying marks on kit as possible.

Useful if the stolen gear is recovered or being sold on auction sites or to unaware customers. Unfortunately the vast majority of stolen equipment is either stolen for order or the recipient know its stolen already, and therefore don't care what is engraved / written on the saw. Everything helps though, I engrave mine.

...Post Code in permanent marker. But doesn't the fact that we are having to do anything more than record a stamped-in serial no. reinforce my point re 'VIN' numbers for machines?

Someone from Stihl/Husky etc is surely reading this: do you think you could put some spin on the idea, present it as your own and make a name for yourself? Nothing ventured, nothing gained...
