Need a chassis

No offence intended and I'm sorry if it sounded that way. But let's face it that chassis didn't get that bad overnight.

In that condition the vehicle is a danger both to the occupants and other road users and it is the driver's responsibility to know the condition of the vehicle. If you'd been stopped at a VOSA check in that you would be in serious trouble, and pleading ignorance won't get you out of it.

Still no harm's done and you will have a much better Landrover afterwards. There's s lesson there for everyone.

They do go bad overnight, thy rot from the inside out and the first you know of it is when a hole appears

I have owned defenders that have gone bad from one month to the next

Here is the list of things we are having replaced whilst the truck is in bits:

- Full set of shocks and springs as current shocks are misting

- New hub seals, wheel bearings, and cv joints on the front

- Diffs drained, stripped and cleaned and topped up with fresh oil

- New front and rear props and UJ's

- New door bottoms all round

- Full service including draining and replinishing power steering and brake lines

- New rear bumperettes

- New track rod ends

Terrafirma m8. 2 inch lift kit.

if you are going to have a new chassis you best sling a new set of pollybush on it as the ones in the photos looked a bit tired , the rear bumbers get the military ones they will take a good knock

The bushes are only 6 months old but you may be right as its all new and will take the strain a bit more may go for it.

Matt, just throwing this in the pot really;

Have you totted up the final cost for all this including the chassis and labour, and those other "extra" bits above what you plan for?

I know you will do it anyway( I dare say I would too:001_rolleyes:) but you must be getting close to the value of the finished vehicle after all this is done.

Its probably worth around £1500 now as a mot failure.

if doing a chassis then its almost a must to do brake pipes end to end. I would avoid polybush at all costs having tried them before it was a disaster, they were so hard the bushes didnt wear but the holes they were in did!

oh add in around 30 litres of waxoil if your lovely new chassis is dry once fitted i would wax to death and back inside and out before it hits road for first time.

last time i did my 90 i used 20 litres just to top up previous years effort after a good presure wash and 2 days to dry on ramps. put 10 litres inside chassis alone.

HI 18 but a good 300tdi will cost £6500/7500 so it cost matt say £3000/4 plus vat he will have very good 110 that will go on for years so i think he's doing right thing jon
