Personally, by the time the ladder is off the van & in position, my throwline & Pantin have got me to the height of the triples already.

 

Best practise in the UK is to use ladders solely for access: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/afag401.pdf (Para 51-55).

A poor job. If he hasn't got the climbers ladder up asap. He'd be getting a barrage of sarcasm at our place.

We have gone over this a few times now!

 

If you don't like them, don't use them, but IMO they provide fast access into a tree, and that first 20' gets multiplied every break.

 

I often set a line first, but a 20' head start is always welcome.

 

I often find people who 'don't like' them drive vehicles that can't carry ladders.

 

If it makes my day easier, I'll use it.

 

If I want to make things more difficult to make myself harder and fitter I might as well flog my saws and start taking 2' dia limbs off with a bowsaw and break out my Grandpappy's crosscut for those big fells.

Exactly right, why climb when you can walk the first 25ft. I get a bit of abuse for wanting a ladder when subbing due to other climbers that love to struggle up the first bit of the tree rather than use a ladder. I love my triples, the A-frame capability is awesome too!

Yeah, WHATEVER! I'll send you a fiver if you can provide a vid of yourself getting everything sorted and 8 metres up into the tree in less time that it takes to get a ladder up
