Yes, VAG PD oils...!!! We use 505.01 in a Bora 130; C-I and C-J spec for denox cats and DPF's demand the later ones I think; typically less minerals; valve train durability was a major concern when low phosphorus oil intro'd; you can't win!

VW Oil, Volkswagen Oil and Oil for VW from Opie

I have a disco d4 with dpfs and needs c1 spec oil. I worked out the oil has less additives and should not be used on older diesels. And probably explains why my disco now has a ticking noise on the valve gear.

Hi, this is a very interesting thread for me, which is not much of a surprise. I am very interested in how the different products stack up. I would love to get our 15w/40 in to compare but as testing has started I guess its too late. Also, we get hammered on price by motor factors who make quite extravagant claims on specs for the price of the product, is it also too late to get either a semi 10w/40 or 5w/30 if I can get you a sample.

Thanks

Jon

For 30 years in a previous life I wholesaled oils and coolants. Morris, Comma and Tetrosyl were the main brands I sold.

In our delivery fleet we used fully syn for the first 50,000 miles then switched to semi syn following oil companies advice. Ran 11 engines most of the time doing up to 70,000 miles a year each. In 22 years I only lost two engines, both with 10 mins, both shattered plastic timing belt pulleys.

Gen Set Steve, you mentioned coolant breakdown, I did a weeks filter manufacturer course on coolant additives and what happens in a coolant system, pm me if you want a chat about it. PH levels are critical for long life of cooling system components and the prevention of piston liner cavitation.
