Just my opinion but if your yard is no where near your house and noise is no problem to the dirty scum you know they will use mini blow torches, stihl saws etc. nowt you can do. Even if they don't get fully through the £1000 security box they will make a big enough mess for you to need to buy a new one. I think decent tool insurance with renown companies who pay out fast with old for new policies is more important. I would never want all my kit to disapear because of hassles etc. but with an old for new policy it certainly would not be the end of the world imo (nice new shiny saws to replace the old ones). If you spend a £1000 on storage and get hit every 2 years thats alot of cash with an old small shipping container you can fix it easily if you get hit.

The trick with security is time. The longer it takes the scrote to get hold of your kit and scarper, the less likely they are to try.

Having alarm zones can help, a simple outer door with a silent alarm then a high security inner door that will give you an opportunity to run the baddies off.

The worst part of spending money on secure boxes is that they won’t resist flame cutting. You can have one open in under a minute with a cutting torch, quick and silent.

You can make the boxes more secure by laminating the critical areas. I did this to 2 boxes that had previously been flame cut. Laminating with 2mm layers of ply and or brass will slow the cutting to a crawl. It will also slow a disk cutter. It’s the way safes are made. The manufacturers rate safes in time increments, i.e. time taken to open without the key. If you can make the box do even 10 minutes it help.

It’s a piss poor state of affairs when you have to spend a small fortune on fortifications.

I've metioned it a couple of times (and no one was interested) but I will mention it one last time here, buy a gsm alarm system it will phone you if someone breaks in. If your mobile can pick up a signal in your yard then it will work.

Ok it runs of 240 volts but it has a transformer thing that cuts it down to about 9V so I bet with a bit of electric wizardry you could get it to run off a 12V car battery for months.

As its already been said with a gas torch nothing is really un stealable although the laminating idea sounds good :thumbup1: and if your yard is out of sight of your house then they prob have all the time in the world to help themselves to your hard earned gear.

Our place is like fort knox I just hope to god it never catches fire, theres not much chance the fire brigade will get anywhere near it before its toast!
