I do lots of hedgelaying every year, mostly as part of stewardship schemes set by Natural england, mine is all Devon style which is mostly on top of a bank, usually cast up the bank with a digger and get the job of stockproof fencing once iv finished the hedge. this is my favourite kind of work, but to make decent money you have to be quick and not complain about thorns or slippery banks in the pouring rain.

We got 500m booked in for this winter all virgin hedge. What are people charging we are £7.50 a meter plus posts

I think it depends on the style abit- westcountry hedgelaying can be done alot quicker then midlands. I aim for £5 a meter for a pretty overgown hedge- less if its hazel more if its thorn.

Depends on the age/height gnarlyness of the hedge but between £5 and £9 per metre including stakes, burning up is £1-2 a metre extra.

Not done loads last couple of years, at one time I did at least 1500 yards a winter, did 40 yards the other day on a building site to start me off and lined up for somewhere in the region of 800 yards on a mates farm once the english nature grant is approved, best get stocked up with painkillers and deep heat :thumbup1:

Did a hedge for an estate i beat and shoot on locally. It had been put on the 4 year flailing regime but at the end of the season the keeper wanted it laid as it was getting extremely bare underneath. I charged £10 a metre as it was such a nasty job which required alot of cutting and burning. It has recovered well this year. Got plenty more to do at the end of this season.

The local Hedgelaying group quoted us £5/m with students doing it (and they were going to charge me full price for a days training!!!!!) so a pro could charge more than that including stakes and binders etc.

If you're laying Midland or Derby then a chain a day is the accepted length. On a young hedge you'll do more.

I would start at £10 pm plus materials.
