Firstly get rid of the Free wheeling hubs, more trouble than there worth. Fit new swivels and use grease and should be all fine.

to add to this don't get the britpart ones get the ones from lrseries as they are meant to be much better quality thicker steel and thicker crome where as some britpart ones arrive already rusting

however i have just fitted leather gaitors and defender axle grease as i'm tight :blushing:

not loving my defender today, its in the garage for new brake discs and pads allround, and the front prop bearing has gone as well, two rear wheel bearings need attention, not looking forward to picking it up later

yes ,it will slow the leak down but either fit a pair of new swivel balls(NOT A BAD JOB)or fill your pitted holes up with araldite or liquid metal then when its dry and hard sand down till its smooth. its does work and lasts for a good while but long aset off swivel balls are needed.

thanks for the info. i mite go for this as a good fix insted of replacement as the springs in the hubs are messed up & as a result are always locked in..

Their point is to stop the front drive train being pushed round buy the front wheels, causing wear and fuel inefficiency.

am i right in thinking you need to drain oil from each side and refill with a 'one-shot' of grease? then it can't leak anymore..

thanks much i will give this a go as a quick fix:thumbup1: or is me having put oil in in the 1st place proper wrong?

Thats a strange comment, where did you hear that from?

Reason i ask is, lrseries are Britpart agents. If you buy from them you either get Britpart or genuine LR.

Sounds like your problems was, before you "mended" them, there wasnt much oil left to leak out:sneaky2:

Now you have topped em up, out it comes!

The grease wont come out as quick, but it will still find its way out slowly. At least you wont leave embarrasing pools everywhere:blushing:
