Must admit mate, I did go and have a look at a new (ish) car the other day – A 04 registered Discovery TD5. It looked very nice, till I crawled under it and inspected the chassis – It was just as rusty as mine! Guess the owner must have lived by the sea. :sneaky2:

Shock! Have I single handed brought about the demise and downfall of this elite group?

Even its creator is showing chinks in his armour with thoughts turning to a comfortable, reliable modern motor.

Go on John admit it, your hankering for something jap but dont want to let your followers down.Haha.:001_smile:

It’ll never happen Mick!

You can bury me in a Discovery – Granted it’ll probably decompose before I do but I’ll never buy a bland, plain, mediocre, run of the mill, soulless Japanese 4x4.:001_tt2:

td5 discos are rubbish, the old man has one, it seems gutless as hell and has a stupid rev limiter thingy that i kept triggering when i drove it as it just didnt seem to be picking up well.

my 300tdi 130twin cab can eat his td5 for breakfast

my 2.5TD beat a TD5 off the line the other day, i'm not sure who was more shocked me or him!!! However my landy is starting to feel her age now but as i've had to buy a new van i'm going to have to do a lot of the work myself so i bought the haynes restoration manual yesterday, the only thing i wont be doing is the wiring as she needs a rewire due to it all being a manky mess and i need to repair the bulkhead so i might as well kill two birds with one stone and have the wiring done whilst the bulkhead is off.

A few years ago there were several companies that specialised in importing 300TDI’s from Japan. All had low miles and zero rust! I’d snap one up if I found one of those. :001_tt1:
