I reckon the guy is OK, he has purchased your Landie, knows you want cash so has refunded you your Paypal fees (4%) on top of paying you the sum the item went for.

Step 1, transfer the cash from the paypal account in to your bank account, that way no one can grab it back - this can be done until it is moved to your bank.

Find out the details of the forwarder the guy is using, phone them and make sure they have you on their manifest to pick the car up.

It sounds OK, if it wasn't, he wouldn't have paid and wouldn't have refunded your fees - sounds like a decent bloke - I have paid for packing and refunded fees if I have picked up a bargain!

Good luck - 90% sure it will work out!

I'm a bit bewildered on this.

So he is from Malta! So what! It's eBay? How many items have you brought from other countries on eBay before? It's a global market and has opened opertunities that wasn't available before.

He has paid you and you have the money. He has arranged shipping and collection. All you have to do is make sure you are there to hand it over.

He has added the extra for fees so you are covered on that front. More than most would do.

Sorry to say it but if you didn't want to pay PayPal for using there service that IMO is the best out there then don't sell on eBay or use PayPal. What so you want to sell stuff for free and not pay for it?

Sorry if that bit sounds blunt but it sounds like you are having a go at PayPal because you are having to pay for using a service that allows people to sell to international buyers with very little trouble, and in a safe manner.....

Ive just read p pal terms they can give you a - on your ac but they can not take that money out of your bank they say they willclaim back through the courts its there in black and white on there terms and conditions

I think this may be right but make sure you dont leave the £800 in you paypal acct as it defo will disappear.

The buyer may be completely legit but when there is 65 million people in this country I am sure a few will have £800 for your Rover do you need the hassle of taking a chance on an overseas sale

Glad someone else agrees - found the Maltese people very friendly when I went out there a few years ago - they like the English and all our old cars and buses - we helped them in WW2 - quite a history there - read about "Faith Hope and Charity" three Gloster Gladiators we lent them to defend the Island!

Yep I've bought stuff from overseas, never bought a car from overseas though, have you?

It doesn't matter if he's covered the fees or not does it, if it's a con he'll get them back anyway!

You do realise eBay charge for selling right? So as well as the listing fee and the final value fee which is about 45 quid all in, I'm hardly selling stuff for free!

Read up on sellers on eBay that have had problems and lost out. Then read up on the bank transfer scam that goes on and you may get an idea why I'm apprehensive about losing my money/car
