New x27 arrived yesterday so thought I'd give it a go this afternoon. Tried it on the nasty logs that just refused to split with old axe. Blasted them to pieces! Looks like a worthwhile investment. Even split some 2ft lengths by 14" diameter! Highly recommended tool! Buy it from german eBay and save a fortune too.

Have just been to my mate's farm near John O'Groat's and helped him deal with the bigger bits of a 25 ton load of conifer stem he bought to see him through a couple of winters. He could not believe that such an apparently small axe was splitting 26x16" rings. It's a seriously good axe.

Very, very much worth buying the Fiskars sharpener too. Contrary to received wisdom when it comes to splitters/mauls, the Fiskars ones seem to need to be kept razor sharp for the magic to work.

I let mine go dull just to see, and it becomes very average. Sharp though, they're bonkers good. So light too! Doesn't seem like it should work at all!
