Cheap running tip; Get a long extention lead - and plug it in next door:thumbup1:

I only have an old electric saw, with no brake, my son finds it more risky than using a 088. Problem is that's the image of electric saws. A few on test would be good:001_cool:

I agree on the kick back. They are slower running but alot more torque at low speed and kick about alot more especially when starting in the cut.

I'm looking at this Bosch 40-19S electric chainsaw for ringing - it's only a cheapo saw (about £110):

AKE 40-19 S - Chainsaw - Bosch Garden Tools

This should be a picture of the pile of wood I need to ring up - the biggest is about 18inches in diameter. I don't need it all at once, over a few years.

This is where you all tell me to get a petrol saw instead.....:001_smile:

Any thoughts?

Cheers - DEAN.

I don't know much about electric saws.

I think by the time you have loaded up the gen and gone getting firewood you will loose out on space with the gen taking up the room. Plus would a gen be powerfull enough to run an electric saw?

I got a gardentec saw from nettos when it used to be open, cost me 50 quid and so far all that has gone wrong is I lost a rubber vibration part, soon replaced with an old one from a stihl saw, fitted perfectly, got an 18inch bar with it and it's 52cc engine can cope with most timber very well. The chain brake handle is a bit touchy and only needs tapping to come on.

For your use I wouldn't bother with a stihl or husky, sounds like you wouldn't use it enough to warrant spending the money for one.

Thats the lot - the front half of that pile is mine (the stuff just visible immediately behind is the neighbours - a 26 tonne artic load split evenly between us - it's a bit bigger than it looks because the picture was taken from above).

The question is - will an electric chainsaw be good enough for ringing three or four 8-foot logs at a time?

Next question - how long is a piece of string....

Cheers - DEAN

ps - I must admit the idea of ringing it all in a morning with a petrol chainsaw makes the extra cost very attractive....

Not sure if its you in the pic but I would not be dragging it over to a block . Ring up what you can on the stack . You get a little avalaunch now and then but as long as you keep your eyes open you will be safe . Get all equipment as near as you can to the action , splitters , processers etc . Don't make work , minimise it where you can . Good luck bu d !
