Suspension upgrade-transit twin cab.

Hi all, have recently aquired a 04 plate 2.4 cc transit twin wheel/cab tipper, with rear chipper body. Would anyone be able to advise me on wether or not the suspension would need to be upgraded-as far as I am aware the current suspension is the original spec. I will be hauling chippings/logs and brushwood, thanks in advance...Nick.

Depends if your going to over load it... and I think we all know the answer to that:big grin:

 

You should see what it's like loaded, I had an old smiley face transit that had only a single leaf spring at the rear and it handled it quite well. but then we had another smiley face truck that we whacked the 5 leaf spring on, and even though it looked liked something out of whacky races when empty, you couldn't tell from the side that it was a 'ahem, a bit' over loaded.

 

If you do get the 5 leaf heavy duty, then wise to get barn doors on the rear, and no one is none the wiser.

Except, when you get pulled over by VOSA they look for things like the 5 leaf spring trick.

They will easily carry a legal load on original suspension, upgrading is asking for bother.

twin cabs weigh about 2.75t empty so wont take much to be to capacity especially with chip its pretty deceptive really.Plus most of the weight would be over the back axle.

I have a smiley single cab and its at its limit occasionally plus chipper mmm vosa will have fun

if you upgrade your suspension you will put more on imo

of course it will carry a "legal load" thats what its designed to do.
