Drey poking?

Fair enough, we dont have reds here but I would be the same if we did.

The only time I come into direct contact with them is when removing trees with dreys in, of course the dreys get destroyed but in the event of it being full of young we deal with them humanely, and with me being such a wuss that usually means leaving them to oneside and seeing what happens.

If the mum collects them before I get a chance to carry out my "legal" (your words) duty and kill them then thats fine with me.

What I mean about unecessary suffering, is poking a drey full of babies and letting them all fall out screaming and dropping to the ground and then battering them with sticks.

Especially not a good idea if the client is watching!

Take them out of the drey carefully and kill them humanely, or let the mum take them away.

Laugh I nearly cried! It was the bit about the babies falling out screaming that did it!!

All that aside if a kit fell 20 feet from a drey the likelihood would be it would have massive internal injury that would kill it anyway! Here's an interesting squirel observation for you all, I've shot and trapped tens of thousands of squirrels and it's amazing how many males have been castrated!!

Its all gods creatures paul!

If they fall out and die then thats fine, but sometimes they survive and are screaming on the ground! Its the bit about customers watching that is a real problem. Last time it happened there were 4-5 children in the house, extra kids had come to watch the nice man taking the trees down!!

Squirrels falling out of trees, and dogs trying to catch them, not really what the parents had in mind for toddlers to watch!!

So, who is doing the castrating? Is that an extra special job for someone?
