I havent seen many if any at all decent climbers aged 45+ who can do it day in day out.

Is this that they "don't" to it day in day out and thats the problem?

IMO, as you get older you MUST do it day in and day out if you want to keep doing it.

I'm a big believer in the old saying "You don't stop doing things because you get old, you get old because you stop doing things!"

The course I'm doing requires we do some industry relevant work, something like the equivelant of two weeks, full time. I've been working since June and don't start again untill January. In that respect, even if I wasn't payed at all for that period, it's still pretty dismal. Anyway, appologies for this thread hijack, I'll make this my last post!

I used to have alot of lads out with me from college on work experience and no you are not required to pay them anything.

Many needed an awfull lot of supervision and input and many had no tickets whatsoever add that to all the paperwork involved, diaries at the end of the day etc and it can be a ball ache.

However somebody once gave me the chance to gain experience so even though i was a small business and couldn't afford to pay these people full wack i would give them a chance.

I'd try to at least give them enough to cover food and petrol and if we did well a bonus at the end of the week.

It's easy to jump on the band wagon and shout at 20.00 a day without the full story.....

This is so true, if you park an engine up it will start to deteriorate, keep it serviced and working it will last alot longer.

Im 42 and keep active with some sort of manual task every day(whether it is climbing,dragging,felling/stacking or digging) i also train every night, and if competing will train in the morning as well before work.

Dont give up on you body or it will give up on you.

It's also easy to say, "you are not required to pay them anything." but as I explained the "Placement" only need be a few weeks long, not six months. I also have tickets and usually work as part of a two man team which could not operate without me. Just to clarify when I said I don't start again till January, I meant college, not work.
