best saw ever?

stihl 046 or ms460 20inch bar

the 660 is a cracking saw but due to weight the 460 best all rounder thats what i think

but that husq 560 as a new saw will take some beating

Used a few saws over the years, and bought a 372xp a while back. This thing totally eclipses anything I've had before- power, torque etc nothing touches it... and it's light as a feather with a 20" bar takes no effort to use.

Had a couple of 262's. Great saws until the compression left them, which happened early on in my experience. The 036 on the other hand was utterly reliable and only a whisker behind. Some of the old Sachs Dolmars seemed to have a grunt in another league; heavy, built like tanks and ate timber.

I think one of my favourite saws would have to be the husq 242, but if I could only choose one saw, and from the point of view of best all rounder, it would have to be the husq 372 I think. In biggish softwood it flies and is still fairly nimble with a 15" bar on.

 

the new huskies are ace but the old ones still have something about them.

 

As much as the 346 isn't a bad saw, the later ones just didn't do it for me

I like my 345e. I put a 13" bar with narrow chain on it and it really sings through little stuff, goes ages on a tank and is really nicely balanced. Plus once it's warm it starts on the lightest pull. I got it with an 18" bar but it's not up to that really so I'm looking at a 575 now for slightly bigger stuff.

 

 

Got to agree with this one, my 345 was my first newish saw and loved it. It provided my firewood for three years and just loved using it. My 346XP is its replacement and feels exactly the same but just goes a bit faster, I guess like getting in to a Ford Sierra in the old days and someone has put the Cosworth engine in it overnight - Luvely:thumbup:

An other vote for husky 372xp here, thinking about buying an other one to keep as a spare while you still can, 346xp close 2nd.

Ms361 - my favourite ever. I reckon the 560xp might be better, but so far 2 of the 5 we've had have gone back (pretty poor average I'd say).

090 "on cam". The exhaust can is smaller than on a 201!

 

Echo CS4600 (?) twin cylinder went rather well but was thirsty, good noise too. Had two of those!
