Hi all.

Just need some help

I have my CS31 coming up soon and obviously need to revise.

I have got the NTPC assessment schedule but when it says " demonstrate knowledge" is this the theory part of the exam?

Just need to know what to focus on.

I have not done an assessment in a while so im a bit rusty so could some one make it a bit clearer.

thanks

As said you will just be asked questions. When I did mine a few years ago the assessor did'nt specifically sit me down and ask me 101 questions, just fired a few at me when I wasn't sawing, for example when I was filling up a saw he'd ask "In what scenario would you use a dogtooth cut?", "What distance must you be when felling a tree from another person felling?" or "When winching over a tree what is the weakest part in the system?" etc. Obviously it depends on individual assessors but mine was pretty laid back about the questions.

One thing I can almost guarantee he'll ask you is to list the "Do Nots" associated with a hung-up tree. I listed mine too quickly while counting them off on my fingers (on both hands btw!) and he missed one and had to prompt me cos I didn't know which one he'd missed, so take your time on it!

Good luck:thumbup1:

Learn all the demonstrate knowledge questions for your theory, for all my tickets ive recorded question and answers on my phone and played back through my headphones which really works for me personally. Really good theory will help drag you through the assessment with flying colours.

So long as you know what your doing and why your doing it you'll be fine.

Bag on...

The assesement schedule is a bible - know it inside out - several times reading it through and a few 'tests' from family members and you'll be fine

Also remember to take your time - rush and youll make a stupid mistake

Good luck

Definitely worth putting the time in to make sure you know it. Expect to be asked everything - I've done 30,31,38 in the last year and each time the assessor has basically worked his way through the schedule asking the questions.

If you can't demonstrate that you've got a solid knowledge of the theory an assessor is likely to pay extra close attention to the practical sections!

The way I approach the learning is to go through the schedule highlighting one or two key words per item, then try to remember how many there are in each section. Writing these lists of key words helps for me too.

You may find that arranging them in a slightly different order makes them more memorable for you too by making it easier to visualise.

For instance in CS30 there are 10 safety items on a chainsaw that you need to know and I remember them by starting with what you can see before you even touch the saw and working through to starting and using it:

Scabbard

Stickers

Rear handle

Chain catcher

Stop switch

Throttle interlock

Exhaust

Chain brake

Low kick chain

Anti vibration
