How would you initially know that it was going to take longer though? Most people seem shocked how quickly the work gets done for the money we charge

Sounds a good advertising ploy. When times are hard headline rates can be the difference between getting a job or not. £10 per hour sounds a bargain but if you string the job out and include traveling time you could end up with more than the quick professional job. Also length of time on site can be perceived as an indicator of the quality of the job undertaken. Slow methodical compared to quick corner cutting.

Just a thought.

Those are the kind of people I don't want to work for anyway as they quibble about everything and are a total pain.

These £10 per hour people are either cowboys or stupid cowboys. They'll last about four months and go back to lawn mower pushing.

Oi, wind yer neck in - I do loads of mower pushing and can't even do that for £10/hour :001_tongue: There's a father and (grown up) son outfit down here who do garden maintenance and mowing. They charge £12/hour each. One of their mowers died properly at end of last season and they couldn't afford to replace it. When we're landscaping/mowing/doing maintenance, we charge out at £360 +vat per day for the pair of us, which is £30/hour per person (although I only see a small part of that). It's tough competing against the £10 or £12/hour idiots, but we justify it by getting at least twice as much done per person in a given time, and being 100% reliable as we don't come unstuck with breakdowns.

My mate cuts grass and charges £25 per hour and has work coming out of his ears, he strims round then mows with a Hayter harrier roller mower and then clips the edges. Takes the grass away.

ive just heard of a guy and his partner setting up a tree surgery company and they are going to charge £10 per hour each. :lol::lol: what a joke, how will they afford insurance? public liability and employers liability and running costs?

What a joke:lol::lol:

Its actuallly impossible to set up a legit tree surgery buisness charging that little, that much plus expenses is possible but still leaves no room for profit. But after you've paid expenses out of £10 per hour you'd be left with about 50p:lol:

Who charges by the hour anyway? all our work is fixed price irrespective of how long the job takes. An amatuer will take an hour just to fix up his ladder and tie on his blue polyprene rope then stand back scratching his head:lol:

Sadly it is sad not funny:confused1:

If I didn't laugh I would cry mate, I'm trying to de crease stress by laughing:)
