Ten years ago the rules were that cranes needed independent inspection (as per LOLER) but 3pt linkage, front loaders, digger and grapple loaders where no one other than a driver protected by a fops/pops/rops cab was within the working envelope.

 

There is still a duty under PUWER to maintain the equipment in good working order.

My kit is well looked after , I have a mechanic and plant fitter on my team so nothing goes in noticed

had a couple of hours at firewood this afternoon as the kids were entertained, turned out lovely

As far as I am aware we are using forestry loaders and not cranes, we do not have a hook on the end of the loader and do not require to hold a load in position and/or have a drop test as such, if you ask a supplier re crane test they always have a list of words to make it not a crane, similar situation to winch rope and lifting v. pulling. ( wish I had a firewood day! spent most of it trying to i.d. correct oil for van longlife service and ended up with fuel filter not fitting holder, back to the drawing board

Yes that's my understanding but in my post I left off the words "are excepted"

im sure our botex trailer gets loler'd, the frount tractor loader on the mccormick and even the winch, tis all done by alliance

You can get them done if you so wish.

Many civils firms insist on compliance certificates and LOLER testing and you won't get past induction without them and CPCS for the machine driver.
