Its actually in my Dads little piece of land. Next to a dirt track/briddleway, and over a shed and a pig pen. Should it be taken out or is it okay to stay?

Ta :)

i would say it looks in good nick, hard to tell if anything else is wrong with it in the stem covered up by the ivy if it was my tree id remove the ivy and give it a good reduction some of them limbs are quite tip heavy and ash likes to split out.

Pics are not enough to give a good idea here. Are you sure it's dead? Looks like it has a full living crown to me but like I said these 2 pics ain't enough. If your worried about it then maybe a reduction would be the best option (if alive), if it's dead then you may want to get those big limbs off it at least and leave it as habitat.

That's not dead, it's coming into leaf!

Nothing to worry about IMO, sever the ivy to reduce some of the windsail on the stem. The hole at the base seems like it goes under the roots an is home to a critter of some sort, hard to tell much else from these pics.

A question yogi

Why do you think the tree looks dead?

Im not sure ive never been too good at pointing out dead. I thought it because it seems even more brittle than usual for an ash, and looks very dull and lifeless. But I did just notice the leaves coming up :blushing:
