Hi Eddie my stihl 4 cycle 2 stroke hedge cutter has been in my local dealers for a service as it was running rougher than normal:sneaky2: and on stripping it down they found that the internals of the engine and carb had a sticky residue, it was cleared and the engine run up but the mechanic still was'nt happy so stripped it back down to find the residue had returned, now the cutter has only been used with aspen, any thoughts on what and why this is happening please.

Hi, From the limited information (unkown colour of residue) guys from Aspen Sweden think this is oil from the fuel. If a 2stroke engine is running too slow it may oil up, or if it is just blipped and not given a good run at full speed.

Hope this helps

Big thanks to everyone at ATS Machinery in lower beeding.

Fitted new diaphragms and pump piston kits to 3x Stihl MS200T. Pro user had switched to Aspen from pump fuel and his saws started to have poor running after a short while.

As I have posted before this can happen in some cases. The ethanol and solvents damage the rubber parts. Now they have been changed they will last for years running on Aspen!

They've done a lot more than three! Frankly I think they've had enough fixing of older machines that have succumbed to fuel change (!) but the Aspen isn't to blame: the problems would surely have occurred sooner or later anyway.

Both my older saws are getting pulled apart and having rubbers replaced before I switch them to Aspen. One's done, the other will be when the firewood season draws to a close.
