marking saws and other tools

I read a post on here how some lads stamp or mark their saws with atheir post code or some thing. Does anyone know how to go about this do you by a stamp or melt it into the plastic or engrave it? Iwould like a way that it was tidy but noticeable and I could squeeze company name/contact details onto it. If anyone knows of a good technique or stamp/brand manufacturer please post.

I use something similar to a dremel with and engraving tip on it and use a letter template to put postcodes on various parts of saws such as the bottom of the engine, the handle and the inside of the top covers,

To be honest I doubt if it would make a lot of difference whatever you do to them as the scum will still take them.

Heat an old file up (pointed end) til it's realllllllllly hot, then engrave whatever takes your fancy into the plastic

I engraved the postcode onto my daughters bike yrs ago - got nicked told police, no interest:confused1: So now I use a large bike lock through all the handles + locked in as well.

 

Had an interesting incident a while ago, back of truck locked but with two dogs left in windows part open in front. Came back 15 mins later driver door wide open but nothing touched, bigger dog looking a bit sheepish as if he had done something wrong. Can only conclude some naughty boy openned the door and put his hand in:thumbup1:

I'm off to my local doberman breeder to get a load, on to keep tied to each saw, one for the box of axes and a couple for in the vehicle.

I had a motor bike once and it was maked with these little micro dot things , DATA TAG it was called . you can't see them but if your kit gets nicked and the police manage to recover it they put a scanner over it and it comes up with all your details . More expensive than engraving but has sticker to say its data tagged and so might put them off as they would have to replace every part of the saw to be sure there was no micro dots left and that would be pointless . Still got to recover your kit first though .
