Crack Willow new pollard....to late to operate!!

Hi Guys,

 

Just a quick one, have a client with a 38ft crack willow with a split bough around 9ft, has had no previous work done to it! quoted to pollard just below the split but have i missed the window with the sap rising to perfom that operation with am concerned I am assuming being a willow it will be ok but with the potential for drought this year that stressing it and hitting it that hard it might be a problem!!.....any thoughts would be appreciated!!

No problem with willow.

Pollarding will help with drought problems.

IME killing Willow is the difficult bit.

 

I have trees in my yard that have grown from tipped logs.

Just finnished 20 willow pollards, and did 57 last year from the 7 march to 25 march no problem.

I did two last week with no concerns. Late summer is worse, before they put their energy back into the roots, but even then you would be unlucky to kill one!

It's a willow, just crack on!!

As said before crack on, it'll take more than that to kill a willow off!
