Why did it cut so fast? My engine never struggles but his ripped through! Would fitting an 18" bar help me?

Ms 230= 2kw 45cc garden saw

Ms 440= or 044 4kw 70cc pro saw

The chain makes a difference as said above but the engine has double the power out put than the 230 ..... If you want a cheap and powerful timber ringing saw the husqvarna 365 would be a cheaper new alternative .

As said the 440 went out of production some time back and the 460 is an expensive saw! Or pm spud on here , he usually has some good second hand saws for sale.

What Matty said - if you want a saw the size of the MS230 that will keep up with the MS440, you want a decent groundsaw - 346XP, 550XP etc.

Cutting speed is all about power, chain speed, chain type and sharpness. Narrow kerf chains will cut faster than wider kerf if you are lacking power.

If you go the MS440 route and want to use it all the time, your back will start to ache if you are used to an MS230!

Yes an ms230. Is there a better chain than the standard fitted item? All I do is cut felled stuff for logging. I've just bought a new box of files and one of those tools you clamp to the bar. Any advice on sharpening?

You cannot compare an 044 to an ms230 mate, it's like driving a 1.1 fiesta then being surprised that your mates Subaru impreza is a tad faster!!

If you don't need your saw for a week or two PM Spudulike and he could port your saw clean it up and fit a faster chain to make it cut faster probably wont be as fast as a 440 but allot cheaper unless anyone on here has a bargain saw for sale.
